In the run-up to President’s Day weekend, San Francisco Bay Area designer and entrepreneur Carly Dennett was in the mood to shake things up. Uplifted by the Women’s March in Oakland a few weeks before, but still mad as hell about the election of a misogynist president and almost daily attacks on the civil rights of women and girls from the new administration, Carly’s Flowerland nursery in the town of Albany became a hub for a community looking for ways to fight back. Prof C. Hope Sadza is the Founder and Founding Vice-Chancellor of the Women’s University in Africa. She holds a PhD in Public Administration with the University of Zimbabwe where her research was on “Critical Organisational problems of administering and Managing Social Development in a newly-independent Public Service”: the case of Zimbabwe. She also holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration with the University of Missouri, Columbia and BSc Public Administration with the same University. She also holds a Primary Teachers Diploma with Waddilove Teachers’ College, Marondera in Zimbabwe.

When Courage Dispels Fear- Latifa Nabizada

Latifa Nabizada is the daughter of an Afghanistan Islamist from Uzbeks who spent six years in jail after being accused of being a member of the Mujahedeen (Mujahedeen is the term for one engaged in Jihad). Uzbeks is Turkic largest ethnic group in Central Asia. Nabizada and her sister were the first female graduates of the Afghan Air Force Academy. They both wanted to become pilots but many times they were denied admission into the Afghan military school based on medical grounds. But eventually a civilian doctor certified them fit. Prior to that time, when they mentioned their desires of becoming professional pilots to their parent, they were amazed at the big dreams the ladies had.
