BoN Celebrates Women Commercial Bank Leadership

Bank of Namibia recently organized an event in celebration of women taking over the reins at four of Namibia’s biggest banks with a combined value of more than N$90 billion. The event which held at the country’s capital city, Windhoek, had in attendance several dignitaries, including the four women whose achievements have inspired other women to take action and aspire to impact themselves. The four women shared their stories on their journeys up the corporate ladder. All echoed the importance of having the quality of delivering solid performance – regardless of one’s gender. Ester Kali, a trailblazer in the field, was appointed chief executive officer in 2014 and as CEO of The Bankers Association Namibia (BAN), in June 2020. Frustration and hope got me into Philanthropy

World Cancer Day was made official at the first World Summit Against Cancer in 2000. The event took place in Paris and was attended by members of cancer organizations and prominent government leaders from around the world. A document titled the Charter of Paris Against Cancer featuring 10 articles was signed, outlining a global commitment to improving the facilitation and quality of life of cancer patients. The Gambia Now Has Its First Woman-Owned Organic Cotton Farm

Elsie’s Women Empowerment Farm is the first women-owned farm producing organic cotton in the Gambia, and as the name might suggest, women’s economic empowerment is at the heart of this enterprise. Moreover, as a member of the Young Female Farmers Association, Elsie A. Williams works together with the association to boost women’s role in agriculture. ‘My vision was to revitalize cotton production in The Gambia,’ says the farm owner. ‘When we are successful with this, much more people will have jobs. I told myself to take the responsibility and mobilise other women, as I cannot do this alone.’ The Gambia has a rich history in cotton production – a major cash crop in the 1970s and 1980s.
