“I will not shirk that responsibility under any circumstances.”

Those were the words of Angela List following her election as First Vice President of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, as she acknowledged the increased responsibility that comes with helping to maximise the benefits derived from Ghana’s mineral resources.

The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Nguvu Mining Limited was elected to the influential position during the Chamber’s recent Annual General Meeting in Accra, marking a significant step up from her previous role as Second Vice President.

The Ghana Chamber of Mines, established in 1928, is the country’s leading minerals industry association, representing companies involved in mineral exploration, production, and processing. As First Vice President, List now occupies one of the highest leadership positions within the organisation, where she will help shape industry policy, promote best practices, and advocate for the sustainable development of Ghana’s mining sector.

With more than 25 years of experience in the mining industry, List has built a reputation as one of Africa’s most accomplished mining executives. Through Nguvu Mining Limited, she oversees a portfolio of mining companies across West Africa, including Adamus Resources Limited, Northern Ashanti Mining Company Limited, Segala Mining Company, Samira Hill Gold Mine, and Poura Resources Limited.

Speaking after her election, she emphasised the need for greater female participation in mining, encouraging more women to venture into a field traditionally dominated by men. She stated that the time had come to give practical meaning to the belief that women can excel in every area of industry and leadership.

Prior to establishing Nguvu Mining Limited, List served as Executive Director of BCM Ghana Limited and BCM International Limited, where she played a key role in transforming both companies from relatively small enterprises into major players in the mining services sector.

Her academic credentials are equally impressive. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Administration from the University of Ghana, as well as a Master of Science and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Manchester.

Angela List’s achievements have earned her numerous accolades, including recognition as the Most Outstanding Female Mining Entrepreneur in Africa. In 2025, she received the prestigious Global Power Female Award, an honour reserved for some of the world’s most accomplished women leaders. She has also been named Female CEO of the Year and received the Asantehene Award from Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for her outstanding contribution to Ghana’s mining industry.

Her elevation to First Vice President of the Ghana Chamber of Mines is not only a recognition of her professional accomplishments but also a significant milestone for women in the extractive sector, reinforcing the growing influence of female leaders in shaping Africa’s economic future.
