The Face of Activism in the Philippines – the Legacy of Corazon Aquino

Maria Corazon Aquino was the first female Philippines’ President. Originally, she was just a housewife, more interested in caring for her family and supporting her husband, Senator Benigno S. Aquino, in his political pursuit. Nevertheless, when Benigno was assassinated at the Manila Airport on his return from exile by Marcos’ men, she could no longer stay adamant. Soon after the death of her husband, she became the anchor point for the democratic movement in the Philippines and the most sacrosanct personality in People’s Power Revolution (PPR), also known as Yellow Revolution. This movement toppled the twenty-year-old regime of President Ferdinand Marcos. Owing to her resilience, she ended up becoming a leader in so many fronts in her country and was later became the President of Philippine.

UAE organization to Help 25,000 Women Realize True Potential

On 19 June 2018 at United Nations Headquarters, Signing Ceremony for Agreement with NAMA Women Advancement Establishment Director Reem BinKarem; Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh, and UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka. Sharjah: The UAE-based non-profit Nama Women Advancement Establishment (Nama) has set in motion plans to improve the lives of more than 25,000 women living in poverty in UAE, South Africa and other regions, in a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding. Nama and UN Women signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New York recently to consolidate their efforts in implementing the UN Women flagship programme ‘Stimulating Equal Opportunities for Women Entrepreneurs’, with support from UN Women headquarters. Kamala Harris: Giving a Voice to the Voiceless in Diaspora

Kamala Harris represents the few whose decision to engage in politics was born out of the desire to give a voice to the voiceless diaspora in America. She became the first California attorney general with African American or South Asian ancestry after defeating Republican rival Steve Cooley in the 2010 election for the position. Harris was born on October 20, 1964 in Oakland, California to a Tamil Indian mother and a Jamaican father. The family lived in Berkeley, California, where both of Harris’ parents attended graduate school. Although, Harris’ parents were later divorced when she was 7 and her mother was granted custody of the children by a court-ordered settlement.
