Ending Rape in Africa: From a survivor’s perspective

Despite the rising cases of rape in Africa there seems to be a growing number of activists who inspire us to foresee an Africa free of violence against women, a future where women have been healed from the stigmas of rape and are confident to be the women they want to be without being drawn back by pain or hurt. West Africa has several women in that sphere, including Oluwaseun Ayodeji Osowobi, a rape and a COVID-19 survivor.

An old and reverberated cliché – ‘’Women represent the least valued and the most under-tapped resource,’’ remains true today as it was in time past. The US executive and author Sheryl Sandberg could not have put it better when she said “We must raise both the ceiling and the floor’’ in our struggle to get more women to the top. ‘’When women access their rightful opportunities when their talents are made to shine without hesitation when they have access to education, training and finance when their standing is determined by results and not gender, the effect will be spectacularly transformative, and will represent a return on investment beyond what is imagined by the most progressive amongst us.’’

The Thin Line between Hard Work and Smart Work

With the return to school policy picking up in some countries, one should expect parents, especially working mothers and women entrepreneurs who faced difficulties in parenting during the COVID-19 pandemic to be relieved. However, in contrary, more work is needed from both parents and teachers to help these little ones adjust to the new normal. For working mothers and women entrepreneurs, it is going to be a little tougher because while children are resuming back to school the corporate and business world is also in pursuit of overcoming the downturn posed at them by the unexpected pandemic.
