On the 25th day of October 2018, a unanimous decision by members of the Federal Parliamentary Assembly in Ethiopia led to the installation of Sahle Work Zewde, a lifelong career diplomat, as the first female President of the country, and the second Head of State since its inception after Empress Zewditu. The decision to elect Zewde as President of Ethiopia saw her replace former President, Mulatu Teshome, to actively take on the reins of leadership in a beloved country in which she has served in different capacities. Presently, only two female heads of State exist in Africa, and Zewde’s testament to the leadership and advancing the cause of good governance since her appointment speaks volumes of her lifelong ability in the path of rendering service in every position she has occupied.
Rwanda: Ministry of ICT Empower 3000 Women Farmer with Smartphones
Rwanda’s Ministry of ICT and Innovation under its ‘ConnectRwanda initiative’ has distributed smartphones to over 3,000 female leaders in farmers’ cooperatives in the districts of Nyamagabe, Burera, Kirehe and Nyamasheke to aid and ease their access to agriculture information and enable them to disseminate it to other farmers.
Cote d’Ivoire: UNESCO, Nestlé sign MoU to Educate Abidjan Women Traders
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Agro-Food Group Nestlé Cote d’Ivoire, on Tuesday in Abidjan, signed an MOU aimed at offering literacy training to 400 women traders in the Abidjan districts of Abobo, Cocody and Marcory, APA reports in the country’s economic hub. This agreement is part of the fourth phase of the literacy project of this agro-food company.
