Apologize and Let the Pride Slide

By Splendor Eloke Young

As parents or guardians, we must work within the consciousness that children also have the tendency to get hurt by our actions or inactions. The fear of losing authority and respect has made most parents abandon the phrase “I am sorry” when relating with their children. Learning to say “I am sorry” to your child when you know you have made a mistake, will go a long way in building and maintaining a great parental relationship between you and the child, as well as showing mutual respect which we all should strive to teach and imbibe.

Under this limited view of how we help people address their health problems, potentially reversible conditions become chronic, lifelong burdens. For many patients—those who are on prescriptions to treat high cholesterol, or chronic pain or even in some cases type II…

Physical intimacy remains a tricky issue to discuss when you have a teenage daughter. Most times, parents and guardians wait until something prompts them to discuss intimacy. This should not be the case, we often wonder, what is the appropriate age to start discussing this topic with our daughter? Specialists say it is never too early to start the discussion, I say do not wait until it is too late. While doing my daily rounds, I came across this question on Troubleshooter, an advice column that appears in the Japan News, and I felt it would be right to share this with parents, who may have been in this situation or find themselves edging towards the same. The question reads: ‘I saw my teenage daughter in bed with her boyfriend, what should I do?’ I’m a company employee in my 40s with a daughter who’s a first-year student at a…

CARBOHYDRATES – Too much is Bad, too little is not enough!

When getting your meal ready for either breakfast, lunch or dinner, we are always so excited to dish the food and sit down to enjoy a good meal. Maybe because of the excitement and thrill that comes with having a meal that tastes deliciously divine, or maybe some other factor, it does not change the fact that mealtime is usually a happy time for most people.
