ABUJA, NIGERIA/ 28 OCTOBER 28, 2019/

The Centre for Economic and Leadership Development has appointed Dr Mrs Hannatu Adamu Fika as its new Board Chairperson for a renewable term of two (2) calendar years.

Dr Fika is currently the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board in Nigeria and a source of inspiration to women and young girls.

The formal investiture will take place on December 11th, 2019 during CELD’s 7th edition of the South America- Africa – Middle East – Asia Women Summit (SAMEAWS), at the Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai – United Arab Emirates.

In a statement, the Executive Director of CELD, Mrs Furo Giami, said: “Dr Fika’s wealth of experience in public service, her contributions to women empowerment, her accomplishments in impacting the lives of both women and men in Nigeria’s public service through efforts to ensure that the country’s public servants own their homes, are key requirements for the Centre for Economic and Leadership Development in realizing her set objectives to bring true and enduring empowerment to women at various levels, circumstances, cultures and tribes”.

“We are confident that she will drum up the needed support for the Centre and enhance existing efforts in promoting inclusive leadership and education for women and youths in the various societies in the developing nations, particularly in Nigeria”, Mrs Giami added.

Dr Fika started her working career as a Civil Servant in the State Civil Service. She was recruited as an Assistant Secretary and rose steadily to become a Director before transferring her Service to the Federal Civil Service, in 1990, as a Deputy Director. In that capacity, she worked at the Office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation, moved on to the National Commission for Women Affairs, where she became an asset in the development of Policies that gave birth to the Better Life for Rural Women in Nigeria, the pet project of Her Excellency, Mrs Maryam Babangida, under the Military regime of the 1980s. That Programme became the first and one of the most impactful programmes that truly mobilized Nigerian women, towards achieving improved quality of life.

She became the Director/Secretary of the Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board, where she rose to the position of the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Board in 2009. She took over the leadership of a Board that was almost moribund, with a record of giving Housing Loans to only 12,556. The number of public servants who have benefited from Housing Loans has risen to over 30, 212, under her watch.
